Dr. Aaron Cooper

 

Dr. Aaron Cooper

Dr. Aaron Cooper grew up in Post, TX on a commercial cow/calf operation and cotton farm. After graduating from high school, Aaron joined the livestock judging team at Butler County Community College in Kansas. He was member of the very successful 2002-03 team that is noted by winning championships at the American Royal in Kansas City, North American in Louisville, National Western Carload Contest in Denver, Southwestern Livestock Exposition in Ft. Worth, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Aaron then went to Texas A&M University where he received his B.S. in Animal Science in 2005 and was on the 2004 National Champion judging team. Dr. Cooper then went to the University of Nebraska to coach the livestock judging team and received his Masters degree in Animal Breeding and Genetics in December 2007.

Aaron completed a Ph.D. at Texas A&M University in Animal Breeding under the direction of Dr. Jim Sanders in 2011. Research Dr. Cooper has been evolved with is investigating genetic differences that affect feed efficiency, maternal performance, udder quality, eye pigmentation and cancer eye in beef cattle. After receiving his Ph.D. he was a professor in Animal Science at Texas A&M University-Commerce for two years and is a published author in the Journal of Animal Sciences.

Dr. Cooper then joined Heartbrand Beef to guide the breeding program of 3,000 head of fullblood cows and annually sell 400 head of bulls. HeartBrand feeds and markets beef from 20,000 head of Akaushi blooded cattle in their premium branded beef program across the U.S. and overseas.

In 2016, he formed 33 Ventures a consulting business that services both large and small Akaushi breeders and commercial operations. Dr. Cooper is an expert in Akaushi genetics and handles international and domestic genetic sales and pedigree analysis. He was part of the team that assembled and exported the first cattle into Brazil and Colombia when the borders opened after over a decade of being closed. He enjoys visiting with breeders daily about Akaushi genetics from all over the world. Dr. Cooper has judged cattle shows in 14 states and been an official/superintendent at several national collegiate livestock judging contests. His greatest accomplishment, however, is his son Cain who is 8 years old.

Greg Gibbons

Greg Gibbons has been involved in the feedlot industry since 1987. He started his career as a feed truck driver at the Aronui Feedlot and progressed to managing the 20,000 head facility for 15 years. He has spent the last 9 years overseeing both the feedloting and breeding operations for a large pastoral company, joining 6500 Wagyu fullblood females, 1800 Braham females and 4500 tropically adapted Composite females n their stud, performance recorded herds.

Greg has a wealth of experience in feedlotting and Wagyu breeding, performance and evaluation. Greg has previously been a Councillor for three years with ALFA and served for eight years on the board of the Australian Wagyu Association. Greg is a life member of the AWA.

Greg and his wife Maryanne also run a small Wagyu breeding herd at their property at Bell in Queensland.

 

Dr. Joe Grose

 

Dr. Joe Grose

Joe Grose grew up on a small farming operation that included a piggery, grain production and beef cattle. He graduated from the University of Queensland Veterinary School in 1992 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science. Joe worked in mixed rural practice undertaking piggery consulting, Dairy work and extensive Beef Cattle work. In 1997, Joe purchased his first Fullblood Wagyu Cattle and has been living and breathing Wagyu ever since, building a herd that peaked at 1000 breeders. During a fact finding mission in Japan, Joe met Professor Keigo Kuchida from Obihiro Agricultural University in Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido. On behalf of the Australian Wagyu Association, Joe arranged the purchase of the first Japanese Mirror-type carcase camera to be used outside of Japan. Over the last eight years, Joe has imaged over 30,000 Wagyu and Wagyu Cross carcases in many of Australia’s leading export abattoirs. Joe’s main interests include genetic selection based on objective carcase grading and genomics.

 

Dr. John Purchase

 

Dr. John Purchase

John is currently CEO of the Agricultural Business Chamber (Agbiz) of South Africa, having been appointed to the position in 2007. Prior to taking up the position with Agbiz, he was the CEO of Grain South Africa. Dr Purchase started his professional career as a scientist in South Africa’s Agricultural Research Council (ARC). In effect he served the ARC for 22 years in various research and managerial positions.

John was appointed to the Board of the Land & Agricultural Bank of South Africa in July 2012, as well as appointed as Council Member to the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC) by the South African Cabinet. John is the current chairman of the CEO Forum, a forum of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) in which the CEO’s and MD’s of agribusinesses and organized agriculture meet with the Minister and senior executives of DAFF (government) to address the critical and strategic challenges facing the broader agricultural, forestry and fisheries industries of South Africa.

Among other awards, he received the 2011 Alumnus of the Year award from the University of the Free State, as well as the 2012 South African Agriculturalist of the Year Award from the South African Agricultural Writers Association. In June 2013 he was also elected to the Board of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association (IFAMA), following the IFAMA World Forum held in Atlanta, USA, in June 2013.

 

Dr. Kevin Sullivan

 

Dr. Kevin Sullivan

Kev Sullivan was born and raised on the Darling Downs in Queensland. He graduated from The University of Queensland, St Lucia with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) in 1981. Kev worked in western Queensland on the BTEC program and spent a short but interesting time in dairy practices in the northern districts of Victoria before settling in a mixed practice in Allora. In 1986, Kev moved to Bell on the northern Darling Downs and started Bell Veterinary Services. In 1986, a swine consultancy practice commenced, servicing pork producers on the Darling Downs and in 1989, Bell Veterinary Services commenced feedlot consultancy. Bell Veterinary Services has grown to a four-vet practice and now consults to a number of feedlots both small and large in eastern Australia. Kev has presented at many conferences and meetings over the years including the Australian Veterinary Association conferences, Beef CRC meetings and Australian Lot Feeders Association conferences. He also conducts workshops and has the full training program for feedlot livestock staff. In recent years, he has been both a guest lecturer and external examiner (cattle and swine) at The University of Queensland Veterinary School (St Lucia).

I am the CEO of Wagyu South Africa. My primary task is to transform the South African beef industry to be highly profitable with consumers demanding and enjoying a premium eating experience. My background is as genetics consultant offering over 20 years of international experience in the implementation, management and supervision of Livestock programs throughout the world.

Dr Munro Marx is ‘n boorling van Bloemfontein waar hy skool gegaan het en aan die Universiteit van die Vrystaat gestudeer het. Daar voltooi hy voor- en nagraadse studies en verwerf ‘n doktorsgraad in menslike genetika. Hy voltooi ook sy M.B.A. graad aan die Universiteit van Stellenbosch. Hy is outeur van meer as 80 artikels in joernale, vaktydskrifte en bedryfsblaaie. Hy is stigter en besturende direkteur van Unistel Geneeskundige Laboratoriums, 'n afwentelmaatskappy van die Universiteit van Stellenbosch.

 

Wolf Edmayr

 

Wolf Edmayr

Mr. Wolf Edmayr was born on 22 July 1956 in Delareyville. He matriculated at Grey College in Bloemfontein after which he obtained a B.Com Hon. degree at the Rand Afrikaans University. Afterwards, he qualified as Chartered Accountant. He worked for the firm Deloitte & Touche in Johannesburg and later became an audit partner.

Before joining BKB Ltd he also held the following positions:
1992 - Managing Director of Wooltextile Manufacturers (Pty) Ltd
1996 - Managing Director of Sweet-Orr and Lybro (Pty) Ltd
2001 - Managing Director of the HT Group (Pty) Ltd

Wolf joined BKB Ltd in 2004 as Managing Director. He is a shareholder of BKB Ltd and part-time Free State farmer and is married to Birgit. They have three children.
